Mental health is a global issue, our support towards mental health extends beyond Singapore. MINDSET originated from Hong Kong, where it was founded by the Jardine Matheson Group in 2002. It focuses on making a positive and sustainable difference in mental health — a vitally important yet under-resourced area of global concern.
In Hong Kong, we collaborate with a number of mental health and non-governmental organisations (“NGOs”), advocacy groups and corporate partners, with an aim to raise awareness and change the perception and attitude around mental health. Our mission is to challenge stigma through the education and empowerment of individuals to enable them to share with, and support, one another. We also provide direct assistance to people with mental health issues.
MINDSET collaborates with government agencies, healthcare service providers and NGOs to strengthen and develop the fabric of mental health support within our communities. Our partnerships provide resources and expertise, which in turn allow us to develop comprehensive and effective mental health campaigns and programmes to ensure those in need of mental health care have access to appropriate support and resources.
Strategic Partnership with Mind HK
A strategic partnership between MINDSET and Mind HK was established in 2019 to develop our shared vision and mission to improve mental health awareness and reduce stigma towards mental health issues in Hong Kong.
In 2020, we launched our first flagship project, the Hong Kong Mental Health Conference 2020: Youth In Focus. More than 40 local and international speakers shared their research findings and insights on youth mental health in this three-day hybrid event. It was well received with over 1,600 participants including medical practitioners, educators, social workers, business professionals and youths.
We also launched the Anti-Stigma Campaign which leverages evidence-based research to reduce the stigma against mental health issues in Hong Kong. This campaign is slated to last till 2023. People with lived experience of mental health issues are trained as ambassadors to share their stories and advocate for mental health through public events and media engagement.
We leverage an extensive network of the Jardine Matheson Group to support mental health advocacy in the business units as well as corporate and community partners through information sharing and synergising with business units, corporate partners and community partners. Other than empowering and educating employees about mental health and creating positive and accessible workplaces, our group companies and corporate partners also offer holistic programmes such as career coaching, training and job placement opportunities to aid the smooth transition of individuals in recovery back into the workforce.
We raise funds through donation drives and various initiatives. The funds raised are being invested in programmes and services in support of people experiencing mental health issues, their families and caregivers.
Walk Up Jardine House

Hundreds of Jardines' colleagues, business associates, families, secondary school students and friends in recovery walk or run up the 49 floors of Jardine House to raise funds for MINDSET. The CENTRAL Rat Race is the signature fundraising event organised by Jardine business unit, Hongkong Land, annually. The event involves teams of executives from some of Hong Kong's leading companies dressed in business attire or creative costumes and running shoes, racing around the Central Business District, while navigating different obstacles.
In collaboration with Kwai Chung Hospital under the Hospital Authority, we developed Health-in-Mind (HIM) Programme for Hong Kong adolescents. Launched in 2002, it aims to empower secondary students as advocates to promote mental health to fellow students, their families, and the public at large through interactive activities and experiential personal development training. The programme has achieved significant success with participation from 97 local secondary schools and benefitting over 130,000 students, teachers and parents.
MINDSET College
A pilot programme in Hong Kong, MINDSET College is an educational platform which provides recovery-focused training and courses on mental health and self-management. With courses co-produced and co-delivered by professionals as well as persons-in-recovery, MINDSET College empowers students to seek out solutions and be the expert in self-care by focusing on their potentials and strengths. Through the programmes, it is with hope that students can undergo a journey to pursue opportunities to realise their goals in life and learn how to maintain good mental and physical health at the same time.
